Dragonfly Nightclub - Jakarta (Updated)

By The Jakarta Team
15 years after it opened (and after several renovations), Dragonfly is still one of the top nightclubs in Jakarta. It is also one of the most exclusive, with a very strict door-policy: No torn jeans, no shorts, no t-shirt, no flat shoes for ladies, and you must be over 21 to enter. The entrance fee is also ridiculously high, up to IDR300K without any drink provided.

The design of the club is really impressive as you can see from the photos. That said, the space for dancing is quite limited. For this reason, I really recommend booking a table or a sofa when clubbing in Dragonfly. If you don't, you might have an average experience since you will be crushed on the dancefloor, with barely any space to move around. It might be difficult also for you to get any drinks at the bar as the bartenders will focus on serving more important customers.

The crowd in Dragonfly is almost always trendy and fashionable, with plenty of handsome guys and sexy girls. It is not rare to see famous actors/actresses, models or celebrities. You will find lots of expats for whom Dragonfly is a sort of hunting ground for beautiful girls. Beware though as there are quite many sugar babies and escorts among them.

Finally, the music is rather mainstream. DJs will play the most popular tunes, either EDM or House depending on the night. You can check the schedule on their Instagram page below.

  2. i was ther in march good looking bar/club it cost idr150 to get in per person very friendly staff good service but yes over priced we did get a cd with the entry cost more staff then customers from what i did see lol but a very impresive place the only thing id say dont let any of the staff outside get taxi for you thay will try and force you to pay them a idr50.000 tip just for geting taxi felt that was abit of a piss take (tips are to be given not demanded)by the blk agent

  3. I went there, too, a couple of weeks ago. The prices were very high and, most of all, there's no place to dance..

But music was fine and the atmosphere was not that bad. So it'll be ok if someone goes there with his girlfriend(n If you're a rich guy).

(in my case, they didn't ask that tip for calling taxi.)

  4. that's place is awesome..but lately the music not so good..

  5. Music is OK, especially the special events they have almost every two weeks, but when they do host international DJs, the place is so packed you cannot enjoy yourself unless you've booked a table.. Also, be careful with the clothes you wear: No flip flops, no torn jeans, etc.. The security is very strict and stubborn about these rules and they won"t let you enter Dragonfly if you're wearing one of these

  6. Scoring chicks in Dragonfly is easy as pie. Is it normal that there is no entrance fee on friday nights?

    ReplyDelete
  7. There isn't always an entrance fee, even on weekends.. it depends on who's DJing.. when no special events, Dragonfly is free..

  8. Awesome, I'll be rocking that joint EVERY friday the coming months, yezzur

  9. what sort of club with international standing lets their dj play a vomit inducing dance remix of the dirty dancing theme tune??!
Just shows how poorly educated / uninterested jakarta crowds are; this place truly is a clubbing / musical desert.

    ReplyDelete
  10. International standards does not mean a copy from any western clubs. Dragonfly has its own DJs playing whatever music is popular in Indonesia, and not necessarily what is hype in other parts of the world.

Even though I'm not a fan of Dragonfly, I find your comment very condescending.

  11. I'm from Europe and I've also heard over and over that Dirty Dancing remix there... How stupid you must be to judge the "Jakarta crowd" only from one club/one song perspective!

  13. Can anyone tell me what time Dragonfly gets busy on a friday and saturday night?

And how far in a taxi with no traffic from there to BATS and Redsquare?

    thanks

    ReplyDelete
  14. Try around 1am I think... depends on the night though..

From DF to BATS is 15 minutes, 10 minutes to Red Square, if no traffic at all...

  15. it was such a shame that DragonFly's image as one of Jakarta's It Club has been ruined by a very unconvenience incident caused by their PR staffs last night. all this time I had certain pleasure to hanging out there with the top notch socialistas and made a good recommendation to some foreign friends. But the way DF faking their rule by personal sentiment, prejudicing and accusing their guests, is very unproper & unacceptable. With the fact, DF often makes an intentional mistakes on putting bill and taking advantages of drunk guests. I will not hesitate to forward this message to every media possible since I wasn't the only one has ever had this kind of unconvenience before. You should've take good care of the good image which are actually been built by your loyal customers & clients. your life and continuity in the business depends on them!!! Hey people, SAY NO TO DRAGONFLY since now!!

  17. I went there last saturday night. We were like 10 people and only one of our friends was wearing tshirt but and they made problem about it. After a small conversation with the lady at the entrance she let us in with a warning "next time be more careful" (WTF :S)

It was 1am when we enter the club and I regret I asked for a favor to enter the club. More than half of the club was still empty and until 4am it didn't got better...

I mean okay you trying to be a trendy place, I totally understand but why you making problem at the entrance for a big group of people where your club is already empty.

With a price of 36rb/ bottle of an aqua and such a rude welcome from entrance, so far I have seen that Dragonfly is on it's way to bankrupt...

Last time I was there was like 3 months ago, it was same, never seen dragonfly full since last year.

  18. Dragon is good and bad at the same time. The venue is pretty crap by international standards. However the girls that go there are often very good looking and not the sort that are chasing money. In my experience anyway. And yes as everyone states, very high prices.

  19. Hi I am coming to Jakarta on 25th July and after reading this blog was looking forward to checking out some of the bars and clubs. However I have read a few comments that as this will be during Ramadan then most of the bars will be closed. Can anyone confirm if this is true and if so where will be open and still be good to party and pick up girls (not prostitutes though). Also will the bars that are open be quieter than usual because of Ramadan?

    Thanks in advance.

  20. Tried to go last thursday and saturday and it appears to be closed? Anyone have any news?

    ReplyDelete
  21. we go to dragonfly regularly. Last night we went with the team from work, the ladies on the door said one of the girls we were with was not pretty enough to get in...this surprised us, as there are a lot of ugly girls (and lots of ugly men) in Dragonfly. Anyway, I dont recommend going to a club that treats people like that.

  22. Did she really say it like that? That's just rude!!

Im not Indonesian, but your statement is very absurd. Ive never been to DF before but having the impression that probably that was one of d night DJ was spinning 'not-so-great' set, despite if he's playing in Indo or else where around d world. Besides it was not any of d Indo crowd that was behind d console.
Seriously u got a damn serious attitude, I hope u OD one day and end up wit a bad-S trip! That if u made it through.

  25. Hi all!
I'm an Indonesian girl, my name is Anggi and I'm 19 years old. Tomorrow night, 8 pm at DragonFly Jakarta, there's a NYE Celebration with a BANG! EDM's rising star Gregori Klosman. I have 2 free entries, too bad I haven't found any companion, yet. Is there anyone out here interested with this and planning to go with me? if there is, just let me know by invite my pin BB: 20f3427d or my phone number: 083873147080. I'm really looking forward a companion. Uhm actually, I'm looking for a bule one, a good one and a nice one guy to go with me.

    Thankyou, cheers! xx

  32. My openion for this place. Is not anylonger will survive to doing this business. You better lead the receptionist "or what ever it called" how to speak properly when she explain something to people which being ignore. I suposed to get some drink with my college after work, we decise to go to df. Of course our outfit still same. Unfurtunately we cant get in. If you said the ladies must be "bling bling" there. I dont think so.. is just tricky how they look. The fact they still same chicken "money hunter" like other clubs. come on is a night life... people having fun to the club no matter how it look as long they have money and standart dress code. Not make them grumpy because facing stupid df worker. Jakarta has alot of clubs, is not a big deal we cant get in

  33. Was there last friday and apparently therenwas this gay fashion police named romy or ramzy or sth who wouldnt let descent clothed girls in. The marketing manager swore back at the customer cz the customer wasnt wearing, what they called, "not passion enough". I used to go there often but now cz of this stupid gay ass "fashion police" I hope the business go down soon. Ismaya may have good front image, but their staffshave no sense of hospitality. So unprofessional. It offended me in a way that I have no money when instead I do. Wanted to spend my money on drinks there but thanks to the gay fashion police and unprofessional marketing manager, I didnt have to spend any koney on that shit club who tries to look good by making girls dress up like cheap barbie dolls.

  34. I will never go back to df since their PR staff are arrogant idiots showing disrespect to old customers and foreign guest.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I used to go with my wife and a friend of mine , an artist who is one of the most beautiful ladies in Jakarta. Last week end, we were denied entry by an arrogant dwarf who pretended we were not elegant enough. I didn't know that Ismaya group is following elegance standards from Blok M and Kampug Melayu. We were also denied talking to the PR manager. If DF continues treating business people and foreign guests in such a rude way, this club will go down as soon as another one with higher standards opens in Jakarta. I suggest the top managers of Ismaya to get out of their cosy air conditionned office and fire a few rotten apples welcoming the customers. This club has lost sense of marketing and Ismaya is underestimating the weight of Internet. I will make sure DF will have oustanding negative press in the business community and will definitely spend my money in welcoming clubs like Immigrants where customers don't come to show off , pretending to be the next tycoon of Jakarta. Immigrants has the best exhaust system among the clubs , so you don't feel like being in a gas chamber full of Zyclon B after a couple of hours inside ( which is the case in Dragonfly

  36. Worse service ever. Paid Rp 500thou for the drinks that NEVER came. PR manager said that if we didn't pay the "drinks"/ bill then we will be blacklisted. We did pay at the end because the staffs were ganging up on us, threatening us that they would call the police. It's saddening that a good club can make their staff so arrogant and corrupted. Moreover, my friends were rejected because they "didn't dress up enough". I prefer spending my money on more expensive clubs with good and friendly staff service than spending it in this, what indos and foreigners call, "ayam and ayam hunter" club.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The entrance staff are so rude... just cannot believe it is a club or a prison..

    ReplyDelete
  38. Can u guys tell me how much 1 bottle of whiskey in DF?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I used to like Dragonfly a lot, but yesterday they really annoyed me. I was there with two female friends from Europe. They are both very tall (over 180cm), and were wearing shoes without heels so they did not look like giants. Very nice shoes, but flat. Dragonfly refused to let them in, and were unbelievably stubborn and rude about it. Their entrance staff have their heads so far up their own asses that they can lick their tonsils, and because of that they have now lost me as a customer. Never again, or at least not until they fire all of the entrance staff and replace them with people who are more customer friendly and know how to use some common sense.

  41. well, i travel around the world, if u are looking for a place where they try to be cool but they are not, where they try to make dress selection but they donno style, where they for sure play the worst music in the world...ok, go there......u can go inside dressing a brown chemise with yellow pants and fuxia shoes but if u go with an Armani or D&G shirt with a pair of Paciotti they stop u......The only thing the location is good...but the menagement sucks a lot, never ever see something like that...if u go there for girls it s quite good...lucky me that the music in the taxi was good.......

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have visited this place 3-4 times, but everytime i go there with a group of girls. I never tried this place alone, so i dont know, whether they stop u or not. Anyway, inside the club, once u enter, its really big spacy club. this mean if you are going alone or with 1 or 2 friends, you may find yourself like lost kid...hahahaha....The music is very average, and they dont care the customer choices. Drinks are Ok but yes pricy. Staff service is average, as mostly u have to hangout at Bar counter for your drinks. I found this place as more auditorium than a club. I give 4/10 points to this club.

    ReplyDelete
  43. ^ true. I was like a lost kid when I was there with my bf last time. And sorry to say, but we were very disappointed about the drinks. They didn't make the best drink for its price. My point for this club's 5/10.

  44. ABYSMAL service at the top bar. Are they being paid to be deliberately obnoxious? Here's a list of their shockingly bad behaviours:

    -Not a smile in sight
-Sighing and acting like they're doing us a favour when we just dropped IDR 2MILLION on a bottle and mixers
-It's clearly too much to ask for a glass with a can of soda. Sighs and eye rolls. Seriously?!
-Deliberate sulking and even mocking "thrusting hands in pockets" gesture to his mate when not given a tip (Want tips boys? Here's a "tip" - trying being RESPECTFUL and FRIENDLY to the customer )

These clowns are losing Ismaya serious money - our friends - well-dressed and wealthy foreigners and indonesians - now prefer to go elsewhere. Their service is literally costing them millions of rupiah. If it's deliberate, it's backfired massively. If it's just poor attitude - then Dragonfly, replace them. They are the reason it's emptying out.

They were not welcoming at all and stupis dress code to get in. Girls must wear high heels(stupid rule), for me i will not consider to go to DF again.

    1. Hey, I am Indonesian lady, I go Dragonfly last night but security did't allowed me in. Security entrance say to me we have dress code. Lady entrance say OK. I wear bebe white top and bebe blue shorts skirt, and black high heels boots. Of course I know how to dress but I did't like makeup like a lot Indonesian lady. I only have lipstick and partum of course.. for me beauty is natural no need to do fake.. So I real don't understand why the entrance security did't allowed me in.. before I leave I see group 4 lady come with top and shorts jeans and they allowed in... What!!! That they called they have dress code.. I wear only good clothes and good brand and that night I wear my Louis Vuitton handbags. I agree some of guys comment entrance security at dragonfly did't know fashion at all and they did't have a respect to people.. Last night is my first time go Dragonfly to want check but finally not allowed by smart entrance security.. I will tell my friend about this good experience.. So he can tell the owner of Dragonfly because we are friend.. I did't want this business did't make good $$$ because of stupid and arrogant staff.. after they tell me I am not allowe in I just go to X2 and buy 1 bottle vodka.. I believe not just me they did't allowed in, so they lose customers and $$$

  52. I was there just 3 hours ago, and I couldn't get in just because I am black from Eastern Moluccas. So, ladies and gents from the eastern, you better avoid this place. It is weird that I got discriminated against my skin in my country. What a jerk... I lived in the States for 15 years, and I 've never gotten this kind of feeling, but in this club. Go to hell... You have no right to make me feel like shit. Don't be so racist and please don't embarrassed people in the Public area, remember, people have feelings and social media is talking about your attitude.

And just now i read all comments from ppl around the world who are trying to enter dragonfly and mostly bad negatives comments. So its make me thinking bfore i go there. Even its can also makes me doubt to go that place. I more like to go Paulaner Bräwhaus its a german bar & resto in floor 2 of grand indonesia you can also enter from menara BCA. With german foods have a good services friendly staff big place sometimes they have live music the foods good taste and the drink specially the beer the have homemade beer weiß and dunkle beer and the beer taste is good enough. The receptionist very friendly and will offering you that you want smoking or non smoking areas. Mostly theres always full and need to waiting list. 61. Overpriced average club that thinks it's something it isn't.

I took my girlfriend last night and for midnight on a Saturday night it was two-thirds empty.

200k cover charge that doesn't include a drink unlike most cover charges in the city. So to get 2 of us in and then 2 very average drinks I almost 1m.

Staff guy at the door told my girlfriend she had to take her hair clasp out and either wear her hair all down or tied in a ponytail. WTF!!?

Crowd was mainly rich kids spending daddy's cash or thirty something posers.

There's far better nights out in Jakarta where you don't pay over the odds for some place that thinks it's in Manhattan or Chelsea rather than a basement in Jakarta.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Have been here a few times before and after renovation, purely due to peer pressure. This is one of the pretentious places in the city. Trying too hard, music and cocktails are hit and miss, place and decor, so so. It is a myth that the girls are pretty, why else would they have so much make up on. I find them entertaining. They prance around like they're Naomi Campbell but once you shove money and power to their face they change to mellow kittens. The place is a treat if you are a narcissist with money and charm.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I went there recently with a couple of friends. We were two bule men and one local lady, all well dressed for a night out. At the door we were refused entrance for unspecified "dress code" reasons. This felt disingenuous as we were well enough dressed for high end nightlife.
This especially grates at Dragonfly as its isolated location means that going there and then going to a different venue each require a journey in themselves. After this experience, I will not return to DF in future.
